Phu Yen now is the home to 7,300 fishing boats including 950 offshore ones, mostly catching ocean tuna.

 

Increasing tuna landings brought higher income for fishers.

 

However, the recent turbulent weather conditions, increasing cost, unstable price and high post-harvest loss (25%) greatly affected the local fishermen.

 

Besides, there is a lack of linkage among the stakeholders in the tuna value chain, from landings, storing, purchasing to processing and exporting.

 

Fishery infrastructures such as anchorage areas for boats, ports, fish markets haven’t provided the fishing logistic services required.
